Privacy policy
For the Daybreak Quran app for Android and iPhone. Last updated 26 October 2026.
Daybreak Quran is published by WaliWaali.org (“we”). In short: there is no account, no advertising and no analytics. What you read and save stays on your phone, and we don’t receive it.
What stays on your phone
Your bookmarks, notes, hifz progress, reading history and goals, settings, the location you set for prayer times, and the recitations and texts you download are stored only on your phone. They are not sent to us or to anyone else. If you make a backup in Settings, it goes only where you choose to send it. If backup is turned on for your phone, Android may also keep a copy of the app’s settings and bookmarks in your own Google account (on an iPhone, in your own iCloud Backup), so they come back on a new phone; we can’t see that copy. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data, deletes everything from the phone.
Your location
Setting a location is optional. It is used on your phone to work out prayer times and the direction of the qibla, and to schedule prayer alerts.
- If you tap Use my current location, the app asks your phone for your location. The coordinates are sent once to BigDataCloud to look up the name of your city. They are not sent anywhere else.
- If you search for a city instead, the name you type is sent to Open-Meteo to find matching places.
Content the app downloads
The Quran text is built into the app. Other content is downloaded when you open it:
- translations, tafsir, word-by-word meanings and surah introductions from Quran Foundation, passed on by our server at daybreakquran.com, and word recitations from Quran Foundation’s audio server;
- verse-by-verse recitations from everyayah.com, and on Android whole-surah recitations from mp3quran.net.
These requests say only which text or recitation to fetch. Like any website, these services can see the internet (IP) address your phone connects from, and their own privacy policies apply to it. Our server uses that address only to stop overuse.
Reciting a verse
Recite to find a verse on the Search screen and Recite to check in hifz practice use your phone’s own speech recognition: on Android the phone’s voice input (Google’s on most phones), on iPhone Apple’s speech recognition, which the iPhone asks you to allow the first time. It turns what you recite into text, and may send the recording to Google or Apple to do so; their privacy policies apply to it. The app gets only the text, compares it with the Quran on your phone and doesn’t keep it.
Writing to us
Send feedback (Settings and About) and Report a mistake (a verse’s menu) open your own email app with a message to us. Under where you write, it lists the app’s version, your phone’s model and Android or iOS version, the app’s language and, for a mistake, the verse with the script, translations and reciter you use, so we can find the problem. You can see and change all of it, and nothing is sent unless you send the email yourself.
Update check
A copy of the app installed from this website asks daybreakquran.com about once a day whether a newer version is out. The question carries nothing about you or what you read. Copies installed from Google Play or the App Store are updated by the store and don’t make this check.
Permissions
- Location, only if you allow it, for prayer times and the qibla (see above).
- Microphone, only if you allow it, when you tap Record myself while practising a surah from memory. The recording stays in the app on your phone so you can play it back, and is gone when you leave the surah. It is never saved or sent anywhere.
- Notifications, for prayer alerts and the daily reading reminder you turn on.
- Alarms & reminders, so prayer alerts arrive on the exact minute.
- Run after the phone restarts, to set your prayer alerts again.
- Media playback in the background, so recitation keeps playing with the screen off.
- Internet, to download the content listed above.
